I recently had the pleasure of attending the press launch of Shakespeare’s ‘The Tempest’, at Wells House and Gardens.

Travelling Light Theatre, led by Director Michael Way, are presenting the play as an Open Air Picnic event at three locations in Co. Wexford.

6th and 27th July at Wells House and Gardens
13th July at The Presentation Centre, Enniscorthy
20th July at Redmond Park, Wexford

I got the chance to see a sneak preview of the play and also got to chat to some of the cast.
Michael has promised a magical night and from the excerpt I saw at the press launch, I can only concur that magical is what it will indeed be.
Michael also told me that they will stay true to the origins of the script and whether you are a Shakespeare novice or a loyal fan of one of the worlds greatest playwrights, there is something in this production for everyone.

the story unfolds a tale of dark plots, truly hilarious scenes, romance, betrayal and revenge.

The international cast includes the charismatic Steve Wilson as Prospero the magician and the beautiful Amy-Joyce Hastings as his daughter Miranda.
Amy incidentally will be heading to the 25th Galway Film Fleadh in July, for the world premiere of her movie ‘The Callback Queen’. A talented and charming lady.

The cast also includes – Hope Brown, Cara Christie, Mick Fitzgerald, Mark McCauley, Paul Walsh, Pat Sinnott, Leo Meehan, Natasha O’Brien, Brendan Redmond, Justin John Carroll and Dominic Palmer.
Justin and Dominic recently starred in my play A Dunganstown Romance so I really look forward to seeing their performances in ‘The Tempest’.

Michael the director used the word magical several times when telling us about ‘The Tempest’ and I couldn’t help but think as I walked through the grounds of Wells House and Gardens, that magical was a very apt word to describe the location. There is much to share about Wells, so much so that I will do that separately.

Suffice to say though that the grounds are stunning and I can already imagine families, couples, friends all gathered together, sitting on their cushions and blankets, watching Shakespeare’s language brought to life by the talented ensemble. I for one cannot wait.
Bring your own picnic with you or if you prefer, you can order a gourmet picnic basket from Wells House and Gardens very own chef which will be ready and waiting for you on arrival.
To order a picnic you can do so at 053-9186737.

I got to sample some of the picnic treats and the Salmon and Crayfish salad with lemon mayo, chilli and mango served with Mrs Stones homemade brown bread was simply delicious.

I was delighted to hear that there will be an area reserved for wheelchair users and those who wish to sit in camping chairs, so the event truly is catering for everyone.

Tickets for each of the events can be bought at Wexford Arts Centre

Don’t miss what promises to be an entertaining and memorable event!
