    It's time for another Spotlight on one of my books It's time for another Spotlight on one of my books - Every Time a Bell Rings, a magical, life-affirming, festive romance! Which, for the first time ever, is now available in Audio, narrated beautifully by Aoife McMahon. Earlier this year, before the audio version was recorded, I had the chance to revisit this story for the first time in 8 years! We've updated the cover to tie in with my Curl Up With Carmel branding, and I also gave it an edit. Every Time A Bell Rings is my third novel, published in 2015, inspired by my love for the movie It's A Wonderful Life. My editor at that time - Charlotte Ledger - actually suggested I write a story that shared the themes of that iconic movie. And I am so glad she did because it was such a joyful experience to lose myself writing about my favourite time of the year - Christmas, and to create a story about Belle, a young foster girl who grows up to become a foster mum but loses her faith in herself and her place in life. As you would expect with my books, dark and light themes are explored, and my characters have to work hard to find out what their happy ever after looks like! I have to share something with you all too. I always appreciate an author endorsement, but one of the loveliest ones I've ever received came from Karolyn Grimes, the actress who plays the little girl, Zuzu, in It's A Wonderful Life. How cool is that? For anyone who has seen the movie, she's George Bailey's daughter (the legend that is Jimmy Stewart), and in his arms, she says those iconic words, "Teacher says that every time a bell rings, an angel gets their wings." To think that an actress from a movie that I have watched every Christmas Eve for decades would ever read one of my books and love it as she did never fails to give me goosebumps! Oh, and in case you wondered, YES, I did name our rescue dog George Bailey, after the Jimmy Stewart character in the movie! The tree goes up, we visit Santa in Amber Springs, have dinner in Farinas, then home just in time to curl up in front of the TV.     All good things come to an end! Arrived home to my All good things come to an end! Arrived home to my Hs this weekend and wow, it feels good to be back where I belong. Cannot express how much I missed Rog, Amelia, Nate and George Bailey. What a holiday! As I did a reel for each week in Australia, it feels only right that I also do a reel for our few days in Mauritius too! On cold and wet days, I know I’ll play these reels and remember the epic adventure we were on. Mauritius - what a beautiful island, both in landscape and in the people there, who were so warm and welcoming. It was the perfect way to end our epic adventure. Spending so much time with my parents and my two sisters has been so very special. So many memories banked, that we’ll never forget. I feel so very lucky that I got to spend this time with them.     Our second week came to an end in Perth, and it’ Our second week came to an end in Perth, and it’s impossible to capture all we’ve done in one reel, but I’ve tried! Every day was a family day, whether at my aunt and uncles home, eating delicious home cooked meals, with a glass of wine, or on our many excursions exploring the incredible beauty Australia has to offer. Our family has always been a little salty to Australia that it kept our Aunt, Uncle and cousins from us. But after this trip I can see why Perth stole their hearts. The people are the friendliest we’ve ever met, smiles and sunshine every day, with a work life balance that makes me question a lot. It truly is the trip of a lifetime and memories have been banked that will stay with me forever. ❤️ Daddy said yesterday that he’d said too many goodbyes to his sister and that broke all our hearts. But it’s not goodbye, it’s farewell for now, until the next time. Thankyou for everything ❤️ We have taken a little pit stop on the way home via Mauritius for a few days … I know, I know! Please don’t hate me 😂❤️

I always love hearing from Australian readers when they find my books, so it was special to see A Mothers Heart in @dymockshayst @dymocksbooks who gave me such a warm welcome to their beautiful bookshop.     Spotlight time again! A Thousand Roads Home was my Spotlight time again! A Thousand Roads Home was my seventh novel! And it's probably the one that readers contact me the most about. It is a tale of unlikely heroes who are homeless but somehow manage to do extraordinary things together. It has over 5,200 reviews on Amazon, with a 4.5 average, and it's often this book that brings new readers to my backlist! Most of my books have an international location, but this one is set between Dublin and Wexford. The story is an intimate drama filled with high emotion, with three of my favourite characters ever. In fact, this is the only book that I've ever gone back to. I wrote a Christmas short story, picking up Ruth, DJ and Tom's story one year on. Readers on Kindle, get that for free when you buy the ebook version! This story is just one small slice of what it's like to be homeless. For many, they were only one month's rent away from the streets. It saddens me that the situation has not changed much since I researched this book over six years ago.     It’s time for another Spotlight on my backlist - It’s time for another Spotlight on my backlist - and I’ve decided to go back to where it all started - BEYOND GRACES RAINBOW! This book was initially self-published by me in 2012, and to my surprise and joy, it became a number one ebook bestseller. This got me an agent and, in turn, my first contract with Harper Collins (Charlotte Ledger, thank you), who republished it a few months later in 2013! It’s a romantic tearjerker and was written straight from my heart, inspired by a ‘What if?’ conversation I had with my best friend, who is adopted, like Grace, the central character. It won several awards, is translated into several languages and has found new readers every year all over the world. My writing style has evolved over the past ten years, and in truth, when I wrote this, I hadn’t a clue what I was doing! But something about Grace and her best friends, Tom, Gerry, Tara, Sean and Abby, just seemed to resonate with readers. Even if it does make them ugly cry! Before it was published in audio last year, I had the opportunity to give it an update and edit. It was so lovely to catch up with old friends. And satisfying to correct some rookie errors from that first edition 😜 This book will always have a special place in my heart because it is the one that made every other book possible. Like Grace in the novel, I, too, believe that our loved ones lie over the rainbow's end. And when a rainbow appears, it’s a message from the heavens from someone we love.     Fifteen years ago today, I became Happy Mrs H at a Fifteen years ago today, I became Happy Mrs H at a beautiful wedding here in Wexford. But just to be doubly sure, we did it all again in Las Vegas! Elvis walked me down the aisle as he serenaded me with Can't Help Falling In Love With Carmel! Then he turned around and married us. Rog promised never to take me to Heartbreak Hotel, and I promised never to step on his Blue Suede Shoes. Vows we still cherish all these years later. We sang and danced our way through both weddings. Writing the companion novel for ITV and their hit show Cold Feet, was such a fun time for me. And my inner geek went into overdrive when I got to pretend I was the new Doctor Who!
