Pinterest has made me a better ‘WoMum’!

What is Pinterest? I have heard quite a few ask. Well, let’s see if I can answer that for you all…….First the official answer – Pinterest is a Virtual Pinboard.

It lets you organize and share all the beautiful things you find on the web. People use pinboards to plan their weddings, decorate their homes, and organize their favorite recipes.

Best of all, you can browse pinboards created by other people and friends. Browsing pinboards is a fun way to discover new things and get inspiration from people who share your interests.

You can browse through all the wonderful pin’s shared by everyone around the world, or take a peek at your friend’s pins. As they are your friends, it stands to reason that they might have similar interests!

But be advised friends …. Pinterest should come with a health warning. It’s really addictive and I think once you start pinning, it’s hard to stop! I saw this earlier (on Pinterest of course!) and thought it was very funny and summed up how easy it would be to loose many hours there and end up doing nothing!

I’m sure that there are lots of people who just dream about what they see on their boards and I have lot’s of items pinned that are really aspirational rather than inspirational. But who knows, maybe one day I’ll have a 3000 sq foot house with room for a pool out the back and I can put into place some of the wonderful ideas I’ve gathered.

But while I can’t right now try out some of the home and decor pins, I have had so much fun trying out lots of different things I’ve liked.

Just today Amelia had a Pinterest snack…. For a special treat for children of any age, (or adults too!) this is just so cute and judging by the Wow’s I got from Amelia, it was a huge success. Peanut butter on wholemeal toast with bananas and chocolate chips to decorate. Substitute raisins if you little ones will eat them. Or chocolate spread if peanut butter not a favourite in your house.

A few months ago, along with my sister in law Evelyn, we threw a Vintage Tea Party for my other sister in law Leah. And credit for a lot of the yummy goodies that were on display at said party came from my good pal Pinterest. She never lets me down, always ready with some great recipes to suit every occasion. Just put a word or phrase in the search engine there and somebody is guaranteed to have pinned something there for you to get inspired by.

This cake pictured below, was hoovered up by my family so quickly at our Tea Party that I know it will be a family favourite for years to come at all special occasions. And what I love about this one is it looks so impressive, but it is so easy to recreate!

Simply use whatever cake is a favourite in your house (I used a victoria sponge), spread Betty Crockers chocolate icing all over cake, place chocolate fingers around the cake and smarties on top!

I’ve seen lots of my friends do variations of this cake. Kitkats instead of chocolate fingers for e.g. And next time I think I’ll place a pretty ribbon around the chocolate fingers.

Another favourite of mine now is the Marshmallow pops, or bouquets as we call them in our house.

Party planning

I let the children help me make these and they love it. Once they are made, we place in a tall glass and they become our bouquets. I passed this idea to my best friend Annie recently and she recreated her own version of the pops but placed them in melons to hold them in place. And that’s it in a nutshell, take an idea and make it your own!

It doesn’t matter what your skill set is to start with. Or if you have everything at home that you need to do exactly the same as in the pin. I saw a pin about a woman who had made her toddler scribbles into art recently. She had made a collage on a canvas. It was great but I didn’t have a canvas hanging around at home funnily enough, but I did have a spare photo frame. And one thing we have lots of in chez Harrington is Toddler Scribbles! So forever more we have now got a momento of this particular stage in Amelia’s life.

Now I’m going to go all Martha Stewart on you for a moment. But I saw this and thought it was just the best idea ever. If your hotpress is anything like mine used to be, it is an impossibility to find a matching sheet, duvet cover and pillowcase. Well my friends, here’s a great solution for you. Simply place the folded duvet cover, sheet and spare pillow case inside a pillow case. Voila – a complete set altogether. Now I couldn’t get my sets to look quite so perfect as in the picture, but you get the idea from this…. genius!

And with Christmas coming up, I’m going to share one last favourite Pin of mine. Kid’s get so much I’m sure you all agree.

w this and it will now be the basis for all letter writing to Santa from now on in…..

I could go on and on forever and post so many more pictures of Pin’s I love and have recreated, but it’s bath time now, so why not head over to www.pinterest.com and get introduced to a wonderful, colourful, addictive, inspiring world. And better still, when you pin something you like, don’t just like it, try it yourself too! And if you want to see some more of my favourite pins, you can follow me at http://pinterest.com/happymrsh/

And as always please comment and share any favourite pins you have found too……

See you over there X
