Dramatic Reading of A Thousand Roads Home with Peter McVerry Trust

Hello everyone

I’m delighted to share details of a very special event, happening as part of the Peter McVerry Trust Opening Doors campaign.

Actors Cathy Belton and Raymond Keane will each do a dramatic reading of excerpts from Ruth and Tom’s story in A Thousand Roads Home.

Fr Peter McVerry has been working with young people experiencing homelessness for more than 30 years. In 1974, Fr McVerry moved to Summerhill in Dublin’s north inner-city where he witnessed firsthand the problems of homelessness and deprivation. As with all my books, I spend a lot of time researching the plot lines. And to understand what life is like for rough sleepers – like Tom in A Thousand Roads Home – and the help they get from charities, I turned to the Peter McVerry Trust. There, I learned firsthand how incredible and dedicated each and every volunteer is and how important the work they do is every day to open doors to homeless people in Ireland.

I’ve chosen excerpts for Cathy and Raymond that address some of the issues homeless people face, but have been careful to make sure they are spoiler free!

There will be a panel discussion after each excerpt is read and refreshments too. I think it’s going to be a very special evening.

Tickets to this event are FREE but you must register for them here:

Can you come? I do hope so.
